DONALD KELLY
SENIOR PLANT MANAGER
Don Kelly, Senior Plant Manager for the Greensboro District began his postal career in Roanoke, Va. in 1978 as PTF Clerk on a Letter Sorting Machine. In 1988, Mr. Kelly joined the management ranks as a Supervisor and was promoted to Tour Superintendent in 1990. In 1992, Don was promoted to Manager, In-Plant Support for the Roanoke Processing and Distribution Center. During his tenure in Roanoke, he was detailed as Plant Manager of the Roanoke Plant and as Postmaster of Roanoke City. In 1998, Don was promoted to Manager In-Plant Support at the Greensboro Processing and Distribution Center. He was involved in the site selection and oversight of construction of the new state of the art Greensboro Processing and Distribution Center which opened in 2001. During his tenure as Manager, In-Plant Support in Greensboro, Don had details as District Manager of Finance and as Senior Plant Manager for the Greensboro District.
A graduate of the Postal Service’s Advanced Leadership Program, the Processing and Distribution Management Program as well as a Train-the-Trainer for Plant Managers graduating from P & D M, and a green belt in Lean Six Sigma.
In 2002, Don was promoted to PCES and assigned to the Greensboro Bulk Mail Center. During his time at the Bulk Mail Center, the Greensboro BMC achieved the best BPI performance of any BMC in the country, and Don was twice recognized by the PMG for managing the most productive BMC in the country. During most of fiscal year 2004 Don served as Senior Plant Manager in Mid-Carolinas. In January, 2005, Don was asked to take over as Plant Manager at the Raleigh Processing and Distribution Center. Don held this position until November, 2005, when he was asked to return to Greensboro as Senior Plant Manager for the Greensboro District. Over the past several years, the Greensboro District has been among the top Districts in the country. As recognition for contributions to the Greensboro District’s success, Don has been the recipient of several Vice Presidents’ awards as well as a Deputy Postmaster General Award.
