POSTMASTER, CHARLOTTE
THOMAS CALLAHAN
Tom Callahan was appointed the 41st postmaster of Charlotte, North Carolina in October 2003. He has administrative authority over 21 stations and finance units, 2 carrier annexes, 384 city routes, 216 rural routes, and 8 contract postal units.
The Charlotte Post Office has 1,152 employees. These employees serve more than 731,000 customers at over 360,000 delivery points in Charlotte and unincorporated Mecklenburg County. Charlotte’s Fiscal Year 2012 operating budget is $96.2 M.
Callahan began his postal career in 1978 as a city carrier in Abington, Pennsylvania. His previous positions include: Supervisor Mails and Delivery, Philadelphia Division, Customer Service Analyst, Budget and Financial Analyst, Sr. Operations Analyst and Manager, Operations Programs Support in the Philadelphia District.
He is a recipient of a Vice President’s Award for Individual Achievement in 2007 and for Superior Achievement in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
He is married to Marie, an elementary school teacher and they have three children: Tom, Dan and Kathryn.
